In many of household and office equipment, an oft-unnoticed part of their construction is Casters. Otherwise known as Castors, these little installations improve the functionality of regular household items. Casters or castors are wheels?single, double, or compound?attached to a fixture that allowed the object to which they are attached to move or slide across easier. There are two movements that are often eased by castors. The first is single-direction movement, where the castor moves the object backward and forward, or, right and left, respectively. The second is swivel movement, where the casters? wheels rotate to accommodate the direction to which the object it is attached to is being pushed to.
These two movements correspond directly to the two designs for casters: rigid and swivel. As implied by the latter, swivel casters have a bearing assembly above where the wheel is attached that allows the wheel to rotate to complete full 360-degrees. Meanwhile, as the name suggests, rigid designs permit movement along a straight line only. The State Farm Youth Advisory Board, which consists of 30 high school and college aged youth, will be responsible for awarding $5 million to service learning projects led by students in North America. This includes the United States, as well as the Canadian provinces of Alberta, New Brunswick and Ontario. State Farm Insurance has started a truly unique undertaking here, with youth being completely responsible for so many decisions and resources. State Farm Insurance has given the Youth Advisory Board the responsibility of researching issues that they want to see solved, reviewing the grant applications, and deciding who the money will be granted to.
There are five important issues that State Farm Insurance has decided these grants should focus on to qualify for consideration by the Youth Advisory Board. These are disaster preparedness, driver safety, accessing higher education/closing the achievement gap, financial education and, the new addition, environmental responsibility. In order to be considered for the State Farm Insurance Youth Advisory Board grants, applicants must also be either a K-12 educator in a public, charter or higher education institution, or a service learning coordinator whose primary role is to coordinate service learning projects in a public, charter or higher education institution.

State Farm Insurance is putting their Catastrophe Team to the test right now, as they dispatch this team of experienced professionals to the areas of the country affected by Hurricane Ike. As soon as the areas affected are safe for people to enter, these State Farm Insurance employees enter the area to start the claims process for the victims of this unyielding natural disaster. And since State Farm Insurance has been receiving thousands of extra calls from customers, they have set up additional call centers with newly trained representatives around the country.
To ensure that the State Farm Insurance Catastrophe Team has the tools they need to start the claims process right, they have a fleet of mobile claim handling facilities that have been innovatively designed for their work. These State Farm Insurance vehicles have been moving toward the affected areas in Texas where they are most needed to assist with hurricane victims. As soon as the State Farm Insurance vehicles are situated in their strategically planned positions they provide the resources for claims representatives from the Catastrophe Team to get the ball rolling for customers immediately.
Although so may resources are going towards the claims processing process for victims of Hurricane Ike in Texas, State Farm Insurance has not taken away any of their focus away from victims of Hurricane Gustav in Louisiana. The team that State Farm Insurance dedicated to this effort weeks ago is still working to get all the claims processes. They have simply allocated even more resources to the additional efforts for Hurricane Ike. State Farm Insurance has even hired temporary staff in their call centers to handle the additional claims.
The State Farm Insurance team of agents, claims representatives and catastrophe representatives has already made significant progress with the 50,000 claims filed since Hurricane Gustav, and they will not stop until the work is done.
State Farm Study Reveals Facts About Teen Drivers
State Farm Insurance recently teamed up with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to complete a study about teen drivers, and the results seem to say that the way that teens perceive things is not always reality. The State Farm study, which was published in the journal Pediatrics, was the result of a massive investigation on more than 5,000 teens in 9th, 10th and 11th grades, looked into 25 different risky situations that are common for teens across the nation. State Farm Insurance and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia titled the study ?the National Young Driver Survey.?
The point of this State Farm study was mainly to pinpoint the attitudes of teens regarding these potentially risky situations. Many of the teens who responded to the State Farm survey were asked to identify the factors that they perceived as most important in safe driving situations, and then they were asked to estimate how often they saw those behaviors exhibited in their peers. The State Farm-sponsored survey seemed to reveal that most teens exhibit a disconnection between the realities about car accidents and their own opinions about what typically causes these crashes.
One of the most important insights gained from this State Farm study was that many teens don’t recognize themselves as inexperienced drivers, even though they are quite simply the most inexperienced drivers on the road. The teens who responded to the State Farm study also revealed that they see things like text messaging as very dangerous, while most do not feel that talking on their cell phones while driving are dangerous. It is also clear from this State Farm study that there are certain teen populations that are not receiving the education they need about driving risks. Caucasian teens are more likely than Hispanic or African American teens to see their peers racing or speeding, for example, and they also don’t feel that these behaviors are overly risky.
The point of this study, according to the experts from State Farm and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia who conducted it, was to pinpoint ways that parents, guardians and teachers can help guide teens into the right decisions.

State Farm Insurance has been quick on the scene to assist victims of Hurricane Ike through this tough time. With their Catastrophe Services operation, State Farm Insurance has already handled more than 14,000 calls from needy customers and is gearing up to handle even more inquiries from hurricane victims in need of help. To deal with this heavy load, State Farm Insurance has already set up 12 extra call centers and is training 300 agents to get the claims process started for these customers in their hour of need.
The team at State farm Insurance has made the safety and well being of their customers the first priority. They are making sure that their customers know that they should only go into their homes or businesses to inspect the damage when it is completely safe to do so, after which they should call State Farm Insurance to speak to an agent. State Farm Insurance has approximately 1,000 agents, claim employees and assistance staff on hand to get the claims process rolling. Many of these employees live and work in the same areas that their policy holders reside, so they understand what these customers are going through.
With the State Farm Insurance Catastrophe Team, the company has been able to move into the affected areas to offer additional assistance as quickly as possible. This is a team of dedicated, experienced, mobile catastrophe claim representatives, many of whom have been identified and activated directly into the impacted areas. These State Farm Insurance employees are arriving in the affected areas as soon as the conditions make is safe to do so. Once they arrive, they begin handling the claims process immediately.

State Farm Insurance Exonerated in McIntosh Case
State Farm Insurance has been exonerated after a years-long court case over a suit filed by Thomas and Pamela McIntosh of Biloxi, Mississippi, which claimed that State Farm acted in bad faith regarding insurance claims filed by the McIntoshes after Hurricane Katrina. Court records show, however, that Mr. McIntosh had previously signed a statement saying he was satisfied with how his claim was resolved and that he wanted to be left out of the media spotlight. It was attorney Dickie Scruggs, however, that contacted Thomas and Pamela McIntosh to drag them into this litigation, and drag the good name of State Farm Insurance into the mud.
The McIntoshes’ attorney recently admitted that State Farm Insurance did no wrong and that there wasn’t any credible evidence that the company had handled this claim improperly. The McIntoshes themselves were content with the original resolution of the claim until Mr. Scruggs convinced them to sue State Farm for millions of dollars in punitive damages. State Farm Insurance has reached a compromise agreement with Thomas and Pamela McIntosh, however, totaling $250,000. This is a quarter of what Mr. Scruggs demanded in the original breach of contract suit.
As a result of the McIntosh v State Farm case, Mr. Scruggs is now serving a five-year sentence in a federal penitentiary for bribing a judge to call the integrity of State Farm Insurance and the entire insurance industry into question. The litigator was shown to have made up allegations against State Farm Insurance during the lawsuit to launch a public relations plan that lured politicians, the media and others. He used every trick in the book, but in the end he was not successful. When Thomas and Pamela McIntosh got a new team of attorneys they made the sensible decision to file a motion for dismissal of their previous claims.
Now that Mr. Scruggs has been exposed as a manipulator, State Farm Insurance can focus more attention on assisting their customers and the McIntoshes can get on with their lives.
State Farm Insurance Discovers What Women Want
As State Farm Insurance is learning, women are looking for much different things than men when it comes to managing their lives and their financial futures. This was the finding of a study recently undertaken by State Farm Insurance and their life insurance company. During this study, entitled the Musts of Trust, State Farm determined how important the relationships are that women build with those who assist them with health, wealth and long-term financial security decisions such as insurance.
It may come as no surprise that this State Farm Insurance study found that women are more confident about handling financial decisions than ever before, but it may also be a bit troubling that many of the women surveyed reported feeling a lack of control. In fact, this State Farm study found that many women admit to procrastinating until a major life event occurs before they get their spending, saving and life insurance under control. And State Farm Insurance was most concerned about the fact that many women report to have a trust barrier with the professionals who can help them manage their finances. This is something they would like to change.
During the State Farm Insurance Musts of Trust Study, investigators found that 46 percent of the women surveyed profess that they are very confident about how they handle their household’s finances. Most of the women who responded to the State Farm study, however, said they are more likely to wait for something to happen to gain control of their finances, be it positive or negative. Women also said that honesty, confidence and friendliness contribute most when considering a service-oriented relationship, while sense of humor, recommendations from others and shared interests contribute the least.
State Farm Insurance is taking this survey into consideration, since it seems to show that more women are making financial decisions alone during a time in the economy when they need help the most. State Farm Insurance wants to help female consumers recover from lost income and build a safety net for the times when they need it, so more women can become truly financially independent and avoid financial failure.
New State Farm Youth Advisory Board Members
State Farm Insurance has a unique program called the Youth Advisory Board, which oversees service learning grants to supplement classroom studies with hands-on projects that address pressing community issues and problems. Just recently, the State Farm Insurance Youth Advisory Board welcomed 17 new youth leaders to their team. These youth leaders have a unique position for people of their age, as State Farm Youth Advisory Board members. These young men and women will be actively responsible for many important decisions and resources.
The newly added members of the State Farm Insurance Youth Advisory Board are as young as 17 and as “old” as 20. They were chosen from approximately 250 applications that came in from around the country. State Farm Insurance expects them to commit about 15 hours a month to the board through virtual meetings, and to meet with the existing members four times throughout the year. In exchange, State Farm Insurance provides them with a $3,000 scholarship for their first year, after which they can receive an additional $5,000 scholarship if they serve a second term. This money can be used for community college, four year college, or vocational training programs.
The State Farm Insurance Youth Advisory Board is important because it is responsible for millions of dollars in grants that are given to service learning projects led entirely by fellow youths. Last year these State Farm Insurance Youth Advisory Board members addressed such serious issues in classrooms as disaster preparedness, driver safety, financial education and access to higher education. This year the State Farm Youth Advisory Board added environmental responsibility to the list of issues that their service learning grants will address.
Members of the State Farm Youth Advisory Board represent 12 United States zones that the insurance company serves and the Canadian zone, as well as representatives from national service learning partnerships.

It has been 23 years since Edward B. How State Farm Insurance Handled Hurricane Katrina
Everyone remembers Hurricane Katrina, but not everyone is as likely to remember how State Farm Insurance handled this disaster. It has been recorded, however, that State Farm Insurance handled more than 295,000 property claims tied to this disaster and paid a total of $3.1 billion to policy holders. This is not even including the payments made under the National Flood Insurance Program. While the insurance companies sometimes get a bad rap in light of such disasters, no one can deny that State Farm dedicated a massive amount of resources to the claims filed by Katrina victims.
Following the ravage of the Gulf Coast in 2005, State Farm Insurance
sent more than 5,500 representatives to the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina in order to speed up the claims adjustment process. State Farm Insurance has learned over the years that disasters such as these require the expertise of a dedicated Catastrophe Team with mobile resources to serve policy holders. These State Farm employees also helped people to recover from the storm in any way that they could.
The State Farm Insurance team, including agents and other support employees, spent months plugging away in some of the most severe conditions to assist with Katrina victims. While this was happening, though, State Farm employees were forced to endure allegations from the media as a result of claims filed by manipulative litigator Richard K. Scruggs, a.k.a. ?Dickie? Scruggs. He convinced a Mississippi couple to file suit against State Farm Insurance after they had already agreed to the resolution of their insurance claims, which led to years of litigation and allegations against the insurance industry.
In the end, the good work that State Farm Insurance does has come through, and the charges from the media, politicians and trial lawyers have been proven unfounded. And now as victims of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike face similar issues, they are there to assist in the same way they did following Hurricane Katrina.
